01Northwind Logistics — freight visibility platformmission / vision split
Who we are
Our mission

Move every shipment with the certainty of a delivered package.

We give freight teams a single source of truth — live ETAs, exceptions surfaced before they cost you, and one timeline from dock to door.

Our vision

A supply chain where nothing is a surprise.

By 2030 we want the phrase “where’s my truck?” to feel as outdated as a paper waybill. Predictable logistics, planet-wide.

02Cedar & Bloom — sustainable home goodsvalues grid · icon cards
What we stand for

Four principles in every product we ship.

Materials with a past

87% of our catalog starts as reclaimed timber or post-consumer textile.

Built to be repaired

Every joint, seam, and screw is documented so a piece outlives its owner.

Honest pricing

We publish our cost breakdown on every listing. No mystery margins.

People over scale

Small batches, named makers, and a workshop you’re welcome to visit.

03Lumen Health — primary care, reimaginedfounder letter · signature
A note from our founder

I built Lumen because my mother couldn’t get a same-day appointment.

She waited eleven days for a thirty-minute visit, then another two weeks for a referral. By the time the system caught up to her, the easy fix had become a hard one. That’s not medicine — that’s logistics failing patients.

We started Lumen to collapse that distance. Today, 94% of our members reach a clinician within an hour, and follow-up care doesn’t vanish into a fax machine. Healthcare should feel like someone is paying attention. We’re here to make that the default.

Our story

From a flaky test suite to ten million builds a month.

  1. 2019

    The 40-minute wait

Two engineers, sick of watching CI spinners, sketched a faster build cache on a napkin.

  2. 2021

    First 500 teams

Forklift went public on launch day and cut median build time by 71% for early adopters.

  3. 2023

We opened build farms on three continents and crossed 1M monthly pipelines.

  4. 2026

Today Forklift powers CI for teams in 60 countries — still obsessed with the spinner.

Who we are

A neighborhood kitchen serving recipes three generations deep.

Saffron Table started as Sunday dinners that ran too long and welcomed too many strangers. We kept the strangers and added a dining room.

Every dish on our menu traces to a handwritten card from grandmother Mehri — slow-braised, generously spiced, and meant to be shared family-style.

MK

We met fixing a conveyor belt at 3am. We’ve been building together since.

The warehouse floor taught us more than any lecture hall could: the work is hard, the margins are thin, and the people doing it deserve machines that help instead of hover.

Atlas robots take the repetitive lifting so humans can do what humans are great at — judgment, dexterity, and the occasional 3am save. That’s the company we wished existed.

19Inkwell — independent publishing housenumbered editorial columns
What we believe

Three convictions that decide which books we publish.

01

The author keeps the soul

We edit for clarity, never for committee. The voice on the page stays the author’s — even when it’s inconvenient.

02

Backlist over bestseller

We’d rather sell a book steadily for twenty years than burn through it in twenty weeks.

03

Risk is the job

Half our list is debut authors no one else would touch. That’s not charity — it’s our edge.

21Northwind Mills — heritage flour & grainmission + vision split

Our purpose

Mission

To mill honest flour the slow way — stone-ground, small-batch, and traceable to the field it grew in.

Since 1948 we have run the same water-driven wheel on the River Aire, supplying bakeries that refuse to compromise on flavour or sourcing.

Vision

A food system where every loaf can name its grower, its mill, and its season.

By 2030 we aim to source 100% of our grain within forty miles and convert every partner farm to regenerative rotation.

22Cobalt Robotics — warehouse automationvalues grid
What we stand for

Principles that move the floor

Five rules guide how we design machines people actually want to work beside.

01

Safety is the spec

If a feature can't ship safely on a busy aisle, it doesn't ship.

02

Augment, never replace

Robots take the lifting; people keep the judgment.

03

Ship to learn

Real pallets teach faster than any simulation ever will.

04

Earn the uptime

A fleet at 99.8% availability is a promise, not a metric.

05

Default to clarity

Every alert tells an operator exactly what to do next.

23Marlowe & Finch — independent law practicefounder letter

A note from our founder

We started Marlowe & Finch to give small companies a fair fight.

Twenty years inside big firms taught me how the game is played — and who usually loses. Founders with real businesses kept getting outspent and out-papered by opponents who simply had deeper pockets.

So in 2016 we built a practice with one rule: flat fees, no surprise invoices, and a partner on every matter. No junior hiding the ball, no clock running while you think out loud.

We're still small on purpose. It lets us pick the clients we believe in and stay close enough to actually win.

33Cadence Health — primary care clinicsfounder letter
A note from our founder
DA

Dr. Amara Diallo

Co-founder & Chief Medical Officer

I spent nine years in emergency medicine watching people arrive too late — not because they ignored their health, but because the system made care hard to reach.

We started Cadence in 2019 with a simple idea: same-day appointments, doctors who actually remember you, and prices printed before you walk in. No referral mazes. No surprise bills.

Today thirty-one clinicians see more than 60,000 patients a year, and 94% of them say they'd recommend us to family. That number is the only one I check every morning.

43Harlow & Pike — independent bookbindingfounder letter

A note from our founder

I started Harlow & Pike in a 400-square-foot garage with one cast-iron press and a stubborn belief that a book should outlive the person who reads it.

Eleven years later we still sew every spine by hand. We turned down three acquisition offers that would have moved production overseas, because the moment a binding becomes anonymous, it stops being ours.

If you carry one of our journals for a decade and the cover softens into the shape of your hand — that is the whole point. Thank you for keeping a slow craft alive.
